Niche

Norwegian smallholder methods for keeping backyard hens healthy and cheap

Audience

Backyard and small-flock chicken keepers, mainly in the US (the descriptions speak to backyards in America), who want low-cost, traditional ways to keep hens healthy, cut feed bills and keep eggs coming through winter. The two newest videos also reach viewers who follow egg prices. Inferred from titles, descriptions and the about text; there are no audience statistics.

Avatar

• Realistic avatar
• A photorealistic older man with swept-back white hair and a grey moustache, in a dark cardigan or jacket over a checked collared shirt, shown chest-up beside hens, feed trays or a scrap bucket in a green farm yard; the two newest thumbnails put him in front of egg-factory lines.

Format

First-person narrated video of 14-19 minutes on one hen-keeping problem: a personal hook (a morning at the coop or a family story), a numbered or step-by-step fix, then a pointer to the next video. The two newest retell egg-industry news against the persona's own small flock.

Content pillars

• Hen health, first aid and parasite control
• Cutting the feed bill with home-grown and free feed
• Winter laying, molting and cold-weather care
• Coop building and rat control
• Egg-market news retold from a small flock (two newest videos)

Thumbnails

Same older man in a dark cardigan, chest-up beside a hen, feed tray or scrap bucket, pointing or holding the item. Bold 3-5 word caption in white/yellow (some on red boxes), circles and arrows on the detail, bright farm backdrops; the two newest use factory lines and a quoted caption.

Why it works

• A 'Norwegian method' tag sits in 8 of 16 titles, including all 7 most viewed videos (3,238 down to 289 views)
• The top video ties a high-stakes problem to a short fix (Heal a Dying Chicken in 5 Minutes): 3,238 views, about 44% of the channel's 7,374 total
• A fixed backstory (sixth-generation mountain farm, a grandfather who kept hens laying in the cold) recurs in the about text and in descriptions.
• Steady output: 16 uploads in under 7 weeks (about 2 a week), median length 17.5 minutes, and a comment prompt repeated in the descriptions
• All 10 thumbnails pair the same man with a bold 3-5 word caption; 6 of 10 add a circle or arrow on the subject
