Niche

Firearms buying advice: rifle, handgun and cartridge comparisons

Audience

US gun owners, hunters and first-time buyers, including survival-minded buyers (inferred from titles on deer rifles, moose cartridges, lever guns, 'new gun owners' and 'survival guns', and a sign-off that refers to the shop counter). No audience statistics are available.

Avatar

• Realistic avatar
• A photorealistic man in his 50s with short greying hair, a grey goatee and a dark olive button-up shirt, shown in mountain scenery, at a firing range, at a workbench or against a plain studio backdrop. The channel avatar is a head-and-shoulders portrait of the same man in front of shelves.

Format

About 20 minutes, first-person: a cold-open anecdote or number, a credential line (11 years in firearms warranty returns, salaried at a rifle shop), a ranked list or head-to-head comparison with reasons, a 'training beats gear' close, a comment question and a next-video tease.

Content pillars

• Rifle and cartridge comparisons (.223 vs 5.56, lever guns, deer rifles)
• Handgun and revolver rankings (.38 Special, .44 Magnum, .22 LR, Glock)
• Hunting guns and cartridges for big game
• Buying mistakes and value picks for new owners
• Survival and Old West gun history

Thumbnails

The same bearded man in a dark olive shirt, pointing at or presenting the guns (hunting scenery, range, workbench or a red backdrop), with a 2-4 word headline (9 of 10) in yellow or white block capitals ('NOT EVEN CLOSE', 'ONLY ONE WINS', 'DONT WASTE MONEY') and brand or caliber labels.

Why it works

• A comparison hook: 4 of the 6 most-viewed titles are 'X vs Y' or 'We Tested A, B & C' formats, against 7 of 30 uploads overall
• One breakout: '.223 vs 5.56' has 51,990 views, 44% of the 118,608 across the 30 dated videos; the next is 18,106
• Trust hook in both transcript excerpts: 11 years on firearms warranty returns, now salaried at a rifle shop with no commission
• High output: 30 uploads in 36 days (about 5 a week, median gap 1 day), 19-23 min each since Sep 11
• A fixed thumbnail kit: the same bearded man in 10 of 10, a 2-4 word block-capital headline in 9 of 10, and a pointing hand in 5 of 10
